Любая из трех профессиональных организаций бухгалтеров в Великобритании - Институт дипломированных бухгалтеров Англии и Уэльса (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales), Институт дипломированных бухгалтеров Шотландии (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) и Институт дипломированных бухгалтеров Ирландии (Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland). Эти институты самостоятельны, но признают одинаковые нормы профессиональной деятельности. Крупнейшим из них является Институт Англии и Уэльса, в котором насчитывается примерно 90 000 членов, обозначаемых латинскими буквами АСА или FCA (так же, как и члены Ирландского института; члены Института Шотландии используют буквы СА). Институты следят за поддержанием высокого уровня образования и профессиональной подготовки бухгалтеров, присуждают после экзаменов право на занятие бухгалтерской деятельностью и наблюдают за профессиональным поведением своих членов при оказании услуг клиентам и обществу. Эти институты являются членами Консультативного комитета органов, занимающихся бухгалтерским учетом, Комитет стандартов бухгалтерского учета которого отвечает за разработку стандартов счетоводства. Крупнейшая в Великобритании и вторая в мире по количеству членов независимая бухгалтерская организация, занимающаяся профессиональной подготовкой, приемом квалификационных экзаменов на звание "присяжный бухгалтер" (Chartered Accountant), а также развитием бухгалтерской профессии в Англии и Уэльсе. Члены института первоначально имеют титул Ассоциированного члена (АСА), а затем становятся Полноправными членами (FCA) института. Аналогичными бухгалтерскими организациями, охватывающими иные регионы Британских островов, являются Институт присяжных бухгалтеров Ирландии (Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland) - ICAI) и Институт присяжных бухгалтеров Шотландии (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) - ICAS)

Была сформирована в 1951 г. путем объединения трех обществ, создание которых датировалось 1854, 1855 и 1867 гг., и является, таким образом, самой древней в мире профессиональной бухгалтерской организацией. Все члены института имеют титул (СА) и не делятся на Ассоциированных (АСА) и Полноправных членов (FCA) института
